ABOUT US
Team 6174, The Automatons is an FTC (First Tech Challenge) registered robotics team from the Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies (aka OI) in Buckeye, Arizona.
TEAM NAME
In keeping with the Odyssey school naming convention, we wanted something mythological for our robotics team name. We immediately thought of Talos. Talos was a giant man of bronze who protected the Phoenician princess Europa, in Crete, from pirates and invaders. Talos was considered, in some academic circles, to be an automaton. An automaton is a mechanical figure or contrivance constructed to act as if by its own motive power; a robot.

ABOUT FIRST FTC
It’s way more than building robots!

Following a sports model, FIRST® Tech Challenge teams (5-15 members) design, build, program, and operate robots of their own design to play a floor game in an alliance format. Guided by adult coaches and mentors, students develop STEM skills and practice engineering principles while realizing the value of hard work, innovation, and sharing ideas. Participants have access to tens of millions of dollars in college scholarships.
